Our Study of the Creation Story

Samara pulled a creation day poster card out of her workbox at the start of each day and stuck it to the velcro strip on our white board. I then, read the scripture verse from the Bible that went with the day we were studying.

We didn't really do anything special with day 1 except read the scripture verse. We did watch a neat Creation video online. As I scoured the internet for creation ideas, I found an idea to make a terrarium, which inspired what became our Creation Bowl.

On day 2, we started our creation bowl. Samara poured water into the bowl, then glued cotton balls around the top for clouds. She also colored and cut out a creation wheel. The top spins around on a brad, showing one creation day at a time.

On day 3, we placed rocks in the bottom of the bowl, topped it with soil and added a plant. In the process of doing this, the cotton balls got pretty dirty, so we pulled those off and Samara painted clouds directly onto the bowl with a white paint pen. She also drew water along the bottom of the bowl, since the dirt soaked up our visual of the water. Samara cut out a creation memory match game, which will be seen later in her lapbook. She used her creation wheel and the creation poster cards to help her remember what God created on each day, while she worked on the matching game.

On day 4, Samara glued the Sun on one side of the bowl and the moon and stars on the other side. The Sun and moon were cut from a sheet of foam and the stars came from a set of foam beads; all from Dollar Tree. Samara also played with her creation wheel and creation memory match game, but this time the poster cards were covered up.

On day 5, Samara stuck foam fishy stickers onto her bowl and used a paint pen to draw birds, which she decided should be green. She also played with her creation wheel and creation memory match game again.

On Day 6, Samara placed toy animals into her bowl. At this point she was doing her creation memory match game without any help from the creation wheel. She also worked on a differences worksheet filled with animals. This was a super hard one, so it was great seeing her face light up when she found a difference. We even had to ask daddy for help finding the final difference! It really was too hard and ended up taking a lot longer than planned, but hey, I found it free on the internet and we had fun doing it together.

On Day 7, Samara laid all of the animals down onto their sides (I don't have a picture of this) to symbolize that God rested. Later we stood them back up, so Samara said she wanted to draw Z's somewhere on the bowl; she'll probably add that later. She did her creation memory match game without any help and was very proud of herself.

Then, we put our very first lapbook together. We used three file folders.

Front

We included pictures of her creation poster cards and creation bowl, since those were such a big part of our creation study. This view is shown when the lapbook is half way open.

This shows the inside view when it is all of the way open.
Samara colored and cut out a puzzle showing Day 1-4. The puzzle piece showing a moon is floating around here somewhere. :)

This is a little book I printed out and we glue together. Since the lapbook has been together, Samara has had fun pulling it out, reading through it, and comparing the pages to her creation wheel.

I especially love this creation plate. This was completely Samara's idea and creation. She was very pleased to see that I wanted it to be included in her lapbook.

From the last view, this opened up to the left. Here you see her creation memory match game mentioned before and a creation matching worksheet.

This side opens on the right. Samara cut and pasted pictures of things God made onto one page and pictures of things that man made onto the other page.

The End.
